Mantinades of Crete ♡
In every Cretan village, there’s always someone who carries the gift of mantinades — short, improvised poems in rhyme that capture the soul of the island.

A mantinada is just two lines, but within them you’ll find love, grief, humor, longing, and above all, the Cretan spirit. They are sung or spoken in moments of celebration, sorrow, or simply to pass the time — a living tradition passed from one generation to the next.

I was lucky enough to record one from one of the elders in our village, Mr. Pavlos. A man whose voice has kept these verses alive for decades. Sharing it here is my way of keeping his memory and our village’s tradition alive — so that these words don’t fade into silence... ♡

Mr Pavlos` Μαντινάδα:
Ήθελα και να κάτεχα
ίντα χαρά θωρούνε...
ανθρώποι που παντρεύονται
χωρίς ν’ αγαπηθούνε.

Translation:
I wish that I could comprehend
what joy their hearts have known,
the ones who enter into marriage
without a love their own.

Dramatically Above Us, An Auspicious Blood Moon - The Phase Of The Eclipse Which is Rare- Turns Into A Deep Red Hue. This Is A Result Of When The Moon Passes The The Earth’s Shadow.
