Franny Bryant-Scott

the Ceramists of Gavalochori

I am a Canadian artist and Art Therapist, living and creating year-round in Souri, Apokoronas, Crete.

My ceramics and mixed media artworks are inspired by personal and universal stories.  How we as human beings handle the opposites or dualities in our lives — light and dark, joy and sorrow, how we want life to be and how life really is — has always been at the core of my work.

Place is deeply important to me, whether it’s the gorges and waterfalls of my childhood, the desert rocks and cliffs of later adventures, or the ocean in all her moods from stormy to peaceful.  The environment of Crete seems to combine all the loves of my past with a new colour palette of Aegean blues and greens.

My current work seems to be all about the real and imagined bodies and soul-scapes of the creatures who live in these places (including myself.)

What this really means is, I make a lot of weird birds!
